Other Ministries

Our Church is involved in many other ministries.  Here are a few:

Deacon Ministry

Pleasantview is made up of people called by God to serve in a variety of areas; one of these areas is our Deacon Family Ministry. The deacons are a group of men who help further God's kingdom by assisting the staff in ministering to families.  The Deacon Family Ministry is a ministry of love, compassion and servitude to the membership of our church.   It affects areas such as;

· Family Ministry
· New Members
· Benevolence
· Lord's Supper
· Baptismal Services
· Development/Training
· Pastoral Assistance

For the 2010 service year, we have a total of 19 deacons on the active list.  Each of which is eager to serve you to the best of their ability.  Please feel free to contact any deacon with needs or prayer requests.

Prayer Ministry

Ephesians 6:18 - ...pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.  With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

Intercessory Prayer Chain is available prayer support ready to function when any urgent need arises.  The prayer chain consists of adult church members who have volunteered to receive requests during these hours.
Requests to start the chain can be made to the church office.  The prayer chain has three shifts:

Morning - 7:00 am - 12:00 pm

Afternoon - 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Evening - 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Prayer Clutches provide additional opportunities for Prayer Warriors to meet and pray over prayer requests.  The cluthces will meet regularly to pray over prayer requests provided through the church staff.

The Prayer Room is provided for prayer partners to pray during Sunday morning service.  Prayer partners sign up for a Sunday morning and report to the Media Center (next to the office).  A prayer book will be available to them enabling them to pray specifically for the service.  Sign up in the media center.

Prayer Walking provides opportunities for church members to saturate church events, the church and our surrounding neighborhoods with prayer.  Prayer walkers may be people who routinely pray during their walking regime or those who wish to be involved with specific events.  There will be opportunities to walk and pray for the church, VBS, special events, and certain neighborhoods.

Mid Week Prayer Service is led by our senior pastor each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm. Our church gathers to pray for needs that currently exist in our community and throughout the world.  This prayer time is open to all. If you have a prayer need, call the church office       (788-3734) and ask that we include your need on the Wednesday evening prayer list.

If you would like to participate in our Prayer Ministry, please call Norma Stuart at 788-5434 or the church office at 788-3734.

Missions

Matthew 28: 19 - 20 "Therefore go and make disciples of all actions, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (NIV)
Pleasantview Baptist Church is a "mission-minded" church. We keep an emphasis on mission work throughout our whole church body and endeavor to accomplish Kingdom work through both traditional and non-traditional methods.  Pleasantview offers many opportunities for members to reach beyond themselves, growing spiritually toward a lifestyle that is “on mission” for Christ.

Disaster Relief - Serving Christ in Crisis

Southern Baptist Disaster Relief is Christian love in action---meeting urgent needs in crisis situations. Since 1967, Southern Baptist Disaster Relief has grown into a nationwide network capable of responding worldwide. Approximately 30,000 volunteers have been trained in disaster relief with responses to floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, earthquakes, and terrorist attacks, both in the United States and abroad. The North American Mission Board provides leadership during multistage and international responses.  Many from our church have seen first hand in Biloxi, MI, and in Slidell and New Orleans, LA the great need that exists after a devastating hurricane.

Do you know that our Kansas/Nebraska Convention has a feeding unit capable of preparing thousands of meals a day and when deployed would be staffed by volunteers? Some Associations within the State Convention also have a feeding unit, shower unit, chain saw unit, and repair/rebuild unit. The leadership of The Heart of Kansas Southern Baptist Association (HOKSBA) has seen a need to develop similar units to be able to be used when there is a need.   The HOKSBA Executive Committee has elected a committee and given it the task of developing a plan to make this a reality. The committee has met and has established a goal of having a shower/laundry unit and a chain saw/rebuild unit. The goal would be to have one unit in operation by the end of the year 2006.

Food Distribution

In the 1960’s, The Heart of Kansas Southern Baptists Association began a food and clothing distribution ministry called the Good Neighbor Center located in the downtown area of Wichita. Today, now located in the Oaklawn area of south Wichita, Pleasantview Baptist Church still supports this ministry. We have regular opportunities to share through donations of nonperishable food, household items and gently used, clean clothing. On the second Sunday of every month, these items are collected and then taken to the Good Neighbor Center to be distributed to those who are in need. You may drop off your donations at the northwest side of the Education Building.

Operation Go Mexico

Operation GO is a gospel saturation project designed to place the Gospel of John and other evangelistic materials in every household in Mexico. Volunteers can also have the opportunity to support efforts to facilitate Church Planting Movements (rapid multiplication of churches). The teams will prayer walk, distribute Gospel saturation materials to homes in assigned areas, and help identify “Men of Peace.” These are individuals who become new Christians, request Bible studies, or request visits. The team may be working with Mexican Baptists. A team member will record pertinent data that can be used for follow-up by an IMB missionary and/or Mexican Baptist church. In 2004, Pleasantview Baptist Church partnered with KSCSB to support Operation GO. Our goal is to send a team of 8-10 members each year for five years.

Mission Action Projects and Mission Trips

Whether it’s helping to build a house for Habitat for Humanity, celebrating with the Pregnancy Crisis Center Baby Shower, or participating in a challenging and rewarding mission trip, we have plenty of opportunities for members to stretch themselves by participating in hands-on, life-changing ministries.

Missions Giving

We structure our giving and serving as a year-round process, but recognizing state, national and international emphasis as they occur. Global Missions Impact gives individuals a regular opportunity to financially support many thousands of Southern Baptist missionaries who have committed their lives to sharing the gospel with a lost world. This includes giving to the Lottie Moon International Missions offering, Annie Armstrong North American Missions offering, Viola Webb for Kansas/Nebraska Missions offering and the Danny Dirks Heart of Kansas Southern Baptist Mission offering. We also have special offerings as the need arises to support Pleasantview’s mission trips, etc.

Kid's Day Out

Kid's Day Out is a mother's day out program of Pleasantview Baptist Church.  The program provides a Christian environment for developing the physical, mental, social and spiritual needs of your preschool child.
Kid's Day Out is for preschoolers from eight weeks to pre-Kindergarten.  We strive to maintain low student to teacher ratios in each class to provide your preschooler with a better learning environment.

Our goal is to meet your preschooler's physical, mental, spiritual and social needs through a curriculum of Christian-based activities and learning experiences.  Their day is filled with planned events such as art, Bible stories and music.  Your preschooler will experience age-appropriate activities in small and large groups within the classroom.  We have both indoor and outdoor play areas for recreation time.  Your preschooler will also have snacks, eat lunch, and have a rest/nap time.  Snacks are provided, but each preschooler brings their own lunch.

There is a yearly registration fee.  We provide a quality child-care program for a very reasonable monthly fee.

If you are interested in registering your preschooler in our Kid's Day Out program, call our church office at 788-3734 for more information.

DivorceCare

There aren't many people around you who understand the pain your divorce or separation has caused to you, your family, and your friends.  That's the reason for DivorceCare.  It's a series of support groups and seminars conducted by people who understand what you are experiencing.  Most importantly, you'll learn how to deal with the pain of the past and look forward to rebuilding your life.

DivorceCare is a nondenominational ministry and features biblical teaching for recovering from divorce and separation.
At DivorceCare, you will become part of a small support group of people who are also experiencing separation and divorce.  By interacting with these people, you'll learn there are others who understand what you are feeling and who will be able to offer you encouragement.  You'll also have a chance to talk about the information presented during the seminar.  Many participants say these support groups are the most helpful part of the program.

For more information about DivorceCare, visit www.divorcecare.org.  Our DivorceCare sessions are offered periodically as interest is expressed.  If you are interested, please call the church office at 788-3734 or email office@pbcderby.com.

GriefShare

Grief recovery is a long-term process for most people. Experts say it can take two years or longer to grieve the loss of someone close. Much healing occurs when people have the opportunity to talk about their grief experiences and hear others who are dealing with similar problems.

The weekly support group discussion follows a viewing of that week’s video, allowing an opportunity for interaction and a time of personal sharing for group members. You’ll come to understand that “you are not alone,” that there are others who are going through similar experiences.   The support group becomes a “family” with members ministering to each other.

For more information about GriefShare, go to www.griefshare.org.  The GriefShare sessions are offered periodically as interest is expressed.  If you are interested, please call the church office at 788-3734 or email at office@pbcderby.com

Equestrian Ministry

Kansas-Nebraska Equestrian Fellowship

If you love the Lord Jesus Christ and love horses, you will be delighted to learn about an opportunity that can draw your passions together in ministry.  KNEF is internationally designed as a local outlet for believers to share their love for Jesus Christ with people throughout the horse industry.
Kansas-Nebraska Equestrian Fellowship (KNEF) is best described as a loosely organized group of men, women, boys & girls from the two-state region who are committed to using their love for horses to share their personal faith in Jesus Christ.

Our purpose is to use our love for horses as a platform to share our faith in Christ with other horse enthusiasts.  KNEF members pass out Bibles (The Way for Cowboys, International Bible Society) gospel tracts and The Jesus Video in places where horse enthusiasts are gathered.
Our members are a mixture of equine industry professionals and people from various walks of life who work horses professionally, ride for pleasure and recreation or compete in show circuits around the country.  Some own horses; some breed horses; some buy and sell horses; but all appreciate the grace and beauty of horses.

KNEF was born in the hearts of several horsemen who felt a real burden for sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and uniting Christian horse people throughout the Midwest.  Today, KNEF exists to promote networking within the Christian horse community.

KNEF is affiliated with a larger national fellowship of horsemen and horse women:  Equestrian Ministries International (EMI).  To learn more about EMI, go to www.equestrianministries.org.  Our valued partnership with the Kansas-Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists enables us to network with Christian horsemen and women around the world.  For more information on this partnership, contact Bob Mills, KNCSB, 5410 W. 7th St., Topeka, Kansas  66606-2398, or 785-228-6800.

If you or someone you know might be interested in KNEF, please contact Don Mayberry at 1335 N. Buckner, Derby, KS  67037 (don@pbcderby.com) or 316-788-3734.
